2010 BMFA National Championships

It was too wet for S8 to be flown on Saturday and S1 not flown either. However, there were three S6 rounds and two S9 rounds flown.

The CD extended the rounds beyond an hour if the (torrential) weather prevented flights within the allotted time, and curtailed the round length if everyone had retrieved their models in good time. This was agreeable to all concerned.

In the Streamer comp, 10-year-old newcomer Callum Ginder got second, beating Nigel Bathe's three identical flight times of 67 seconds, but failing to stop the astounding Mike Francies, who ended up a clear winner. Benedykt Klejnow very nearly took the gold in this comp, but an aggressive ejection charge caused his third flight to be disqualified for losing minor body parts.

In Heli-roc, it was down to young Mr Klejnow to disrupt Mr Francies' feathers, as John Jacomb's and Nigel Bathe's models were not suited to the weather conditions. However, an under-enthusiastic ejection charge put paid to Ben's chances in round 1, and ironically his second launch deployed perfectly and the model to flew out of sight in just over a minute. A big retrieval effort failed to return the model.

The flying schedule for Sunday had to be abandoned due to very strong winds. However the S7 scale competition was held based on static judging only, resulting in a narrow win for Stuart Lodges Vertikal.

The winner of the Baikonur Trophy for the best overall performance went to Mike Francies.
